What is Project EDU?
Research indicates that a higher level of child care teacher education is related to a higher quality child care classroom. (Cost Quality and Outcomes, 1995) Children participating in early learning programs with increased staff education are better prepared for school and exhibit higher cognitive, language, pre-literacy, and social skills. Project EDU offers various programs to assist early childhood professionals develop and attain higher education goals.
What are the components of Project EDU?
- Professional Development Planning - The Professional Development Specialist will work with individuals to create and update an Individual Professional Development Plan. The Professional Development Specialist will also work with the center administrators to develop and implement a Facility Professional Development Plan to help them plan for staff education and increased licensure.
- Computers Plus – Laptops are available by application for programs with staff participating in internet or hybrid classes leading to a degree in Early Childhood Education. Computers Plus recipients may also submit receipts to be reimbursed for up to $150 for high speed internet access.
- Substitutes Plus – Programs may apply to be reimbursed for a portion of substitute costs to allow teachers or family child care home professionals use time during the workday to participate in classes or complete assignments.
- Education Lift-off – Early learning professionals willing to sign up with the TEACH Associate Degree Scholarship Program may apply to have their first semester's tuition and books paid.
- Take 6 Stipend – Early learning professionals who successfully complete at least 6 credits of coursework leading to a degree in Early Childhood Education between June 1st and May 31st of the current year may be eligible for a $500 stipend in June.
