Dare County Transportation System provides transportation to Dare County Residents on a first-come-first-serve basis. Medical appointments are a priority. Transportation is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5 PM. Out-of-County transportation is provided on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. At least 48-hour notice is necessary. Transportation is not available on county holidays or weekends. Transportation is provided by county operated vans.
Eligibility: Available to all Dare County Residents. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Fees: No fares are collected, however, donations are accepted.

AFNC is a non-profit organization that utilizes volunteer pilots to fly patients to specialized medical care. AFNC is part of a national network headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA. Pilots are licensed by the FAA and are instrument rated. They donate their time, skills, plane and fuel. Requests are accepted from anyone directly involved in the need (doctors, nurses, patients, social workers, family members, etc.)
Eligibility: Flights are availbale free of charge to adults and children patients with an escort needing air transportation. Patients must be ambulatory and need no medical assistance during the flight. There must be a financial or compelling need for the flight. Angel Flight can only assist when the destination is within 1,000 miles. Persons with a compassion need are flown on a case-by-case basis.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, supportive alternative for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. It serves as a temporary residence near the medical facility where family members can sleep, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations.
Eligibility: Families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals
Fees: Donation ranging from $5 to $20 per day; if that isn't possible, stay is free.
Wesley Hospitality House

The purpose of Wesley Hospitality House is to provide short-term lodging and hospitality for patients and families of patients who are receiving medical care from Albemarle medical facilities. It is a private, not-for-profit corporation that will provide a place to stay and supportive services to patients and families of patients. Wesley Hospitality House features:
- Private bedrooms with bath, kitchen for individual/family use
- Washer, dryer, iron
- Garden area to sit and enjoy nature
- Community rooms for TV, reading, games, conversation
- Supportive staff and volunteers
Eligibility: Referrals can be made by hospital, doctor, or individual. Individual requests for lodging must have confirmation of a medical necessity by doctor.
Fees: There is no charge to stay, but donations are accepted.
