Nationwide non-profit, non-denominational food cooperative committed to providing food assistance to families. Boxes of food can be pre-purchased online or at the church. Boxes are picked up on one particular Saturday each month (usually the 3rd Saturday). The menu changes monthly. Boxes include option for senior/convenience meals, allergen free, fresh fruit and vegetable and a signature box consisting of variety meats, fresh and frozen veggies, milk and eggs.
Eligibility: Available to everyone. No applications or pre-qualifications. Food Stamps are accepted.
Fees: Cost of boxes range from $16-32.

Food Banks are designed to give temporary aid to those in need.

- Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, Manteo

- Hatteras Island Methodist Church, Buxton
Eligibility: Referrals can be made through Dare County Dept of Social Services, Manteo (475-5500), Buxton (252-995-4404) or local churches. Eligibility is not dependent on application for food stamps or other public assistance.

Food for Thought, INC

Food For Thought, INC. is a 501c3 organization that provides nutritious breakfast and lunch meals during school year weekends for elementary school children who meet certain federal qualifications for the need and whose parents agree to participate through Dare County Schools by returning an application at certain preestablished times.
Eligibility: Must meet federal qualification for free breakfast and lunch program or reduced cost lunch program.

The Food Safety and Nutrition program provides education through workshops, newsletters and research based consultations. Their goal is to promote optimal nutrition, healthy lifestyle management, and maintenance of a safe food supply.
Eligibility: Open to all.
