Children's Home Society of NC is a statewide, non-profit, non-sectarian, private adoption agency established in 1902 and licensed by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Social Services.


  • Birth Parent Services Program provides:

  • Free confidential counseling

  • Help with living expenses and arrangements

  • Information about prenatal care and nutrition

  • Help communicating with the father of the baby and/or other family members

  • Education and employment opportunities

  • The opportunity to choose the adoptive family

  • A CHS counselor will come to you if you cannot go to them


Foster care services are offered for children of birth parents who are considering an adoption plan.

Eligibility: Serves all NC counties

Fees: Pregnancy Support and specialized CHS adoption services are free. There is a fee for perspective adoptive families requesting specific adoptive contract services.

Adoption Services offers counseling for children and parents; trains and evaluates adoptive parents; and provides services related to the legal adoption process of children that are in the care of Dare County DSS. Foster Care is a plan to provide for a child until he/she can be reunited with his/her family or provided with an alternate permanent living situation. Volunteer families in the community are recruited and trained to provide homes for children that are placed in foster care.
